A Sweet Adventure: YouTube Proposal… Kinda

March 11th, 2010

I’ll be heading to the San Francisco bay area this weekend, so as a reminder to our clients, please contact April if you have any questions and/or concerns!

My now-fiance Justin is from the bay area so we’re visiting his family for the first time as a newly engaged couple! We got engaged about three weeks ago so I thought I’d share how he proposed. After work, I headed home (my parents’ house) and he followed from his place. We both arrive home around the same time and realize no one was home. Very rare since there’s about 10 people that live at the house and I think it was strange because I had just talked to my sister on the phone. I call her wondering where she is and she said she’s at Costco with my parents. Don’t think much if anything of it. Justin tells me he wants to show me something on YouTube. He’s always showing me new stuff he watches. So we go to my room and he loads up the video he wants to show me. I notice right away that it’s our friends Mike and Chris at his place. The second thought that comes to my mind as the video is playing is “What the heck?! Why did he tell them our first dance song?!”, but then I let is slide because he’s being sweet.  As a note, I had told both of them a while ago that I want Chris to play guitar & Mike to sing that song for our first dance during our wedding reception but I didn’t want to reveal the song until we got engaged! But oblivious me, I’m not thinking at all he’s going to propose.

As I’m watching, the whole time I’m just thinking it’s a sweet gesture. Not until the very last shot that I realize, “Oh! He’s proposing!” When the video ends, he gets down on one knee, busts out the ring in the box and proposes. I think I hit him and say, “Shut up!” and realize I should say yes so I do. Apparently my family knew and had left the house so we can be alone. April knew because she set up a Simply Chic meeting the night that Justin took my family out to dinner to ask my parents’ permission. My brother had come down from San Jose and stayed over a week for the proposal. Oh and a bunch of friends knew because either Justin or my sister had told them and/or they watched the video.

My sister really helped Justin put everything together. She went with him ring shopping and practically designed the ring. She even set up a timeline for him to make sure they get things done (Detail-oriented and organized much? We are related!!) AND she edited the YouTube videos. If you know my sister, you know that she is not very computer-saavy. She had her macbook at least a year before I got mine and didn’t even know how to manually eject a cd. Anyway, they also made this Thank You video:

I’ve mentioned on personal aspects, but thank you again to all my family and friends for keeping it a secret from me and for all the support. Many thanks to Mike & Chris for agreeing to the video and learning the song (you’ll have to perform it again!), my sister Marj, and of course my fiance Justin!

Wedding Party Bridal Show

March 4th, 2010

Hello all! This is my first time blogging as a newly engaged woman! I’ll blog about the proposal next, but I wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming Wedding Party Bridal Show on Sunday, March 7. It will take place at the ever-so-hip Hard Rock Hotel in downtown San Diego from 12-5pm.

This will be my third time attending this awesome show but this time as a bride-to-be with my mom and sister. Every show is different (they seem to keep adding more & more elements to the show). Not only will there be all the different vendors, but there will be a “Say Yes To The Dress” gown changing area to try on designer gowns (I think I’ll definitely check this out!) and a grooms lounge. On the rooftop of the Hard Rock, they will feature the new Rehearsal Dinner Restaurant Row with San Diego’s best restaurants (i.e. free samples!) and night clubs, along with a design gallery and DJ lounge. Yes, there’s a BUNCH of stuff going on so you might want to get there early. It costs $20 but brides & grooms can register here for half-price tickets:

Extra guests can print this out for half-price tickets as well:

Hope to see you there! =)

Heidiophoto

March 2nd, 2010

A few weeks ago, Ginet and I had the opportunity to roam around downtown with the amazing Heidi Orcino, an AWESOME, San Diego based photographer who (coincidentally) we’ve had the pleasure to work with on a couple of different weddings!  She was kind enough to help us take “professional” pictures for our business.. how super cool is she!!!? :]

Her pictures are so crisp and so fresh.  Initially, Ginet and I wanted to take complicated/busy pictures, but she gave us her input on using more simple, textured backgrounds with nice lighting and and seriously, she was ON POINT.  The pictures turned out exactly how we wanted them: simple and chic.

If you are in need of a photographer for any of your events, definitely check out Heidiophoto.
