How it all started!
Our best friend, Celeste, was leaving for her first year of pharmacy school at VCU. We decided to throw a Casino-themed going away party. We thought it was a good way for different groups of people to interact. It was thrown at Ginet’s parents’ house. Decorations were based on VCU school colors of black and yellow (kinda like this webpage!), which were mainly made by Marj, Ginet’s sister. Decorations included a “Bon Voyage Celeste” sign, VCU flags, and descriptions of the games. The budget was based on donations. We rented 2 blackjack tabletops and a roulette table, as well as chairs. Card decks were purchased. Poker chips were purchased and borrowed. Besides the gambling tables, we set up food and drink stations. We also had a designated picture-taking spot with the celebrant by the bridge over the koi pond. As well as a station for writing notes to the celebrant. Celeste’s and Ginet’s sisters and their friends served as dealers and a cocktail waitress. To make the games a little more exciting, we had a raffle going on with prizes that included some of Celeste’s favorite things. Overall, a pretty successful and fun party!
